Brahmastra 2 Shelved? Ranveer Singh Opts Out, Avoiding the 600 Crore+ Budget That Could Have Surpassed RRR’s Record!
The movie Brahmastra 2 , starring Ranbir Kapoor, took a long time to come out – almost seven years before it finally premiered in 2022. After it was shown, the movie hinted at a sequel by introducing a new character named Dev. There were rumors about famous actors like Ranveer Singh and Hrithik Roshan possibly playing this role.
Recent reports said that Ranveer Singh got the part in Brahmastra 2, but it turns out this was just a rumor.
To refresh your memory, ‘Dev’ was teased as a character who is Shiva’s father (played by RK) and Amrita’s husband (played by Deepika Padukone). Even though we didn’t see the face, fans started guessing based on the character’s body.
At first, people heard that Ranveer Singh was confirmed for the role, but now it seems that was not true. New updates say that Ranveer Singh won’t be in the movie, and the reasons for this decision are now clear.
After the release of Brahmastra, there were rumors that Ranbir Kapoor himself might play the role of Dev, which seems more plausible according to the latest report. Before we delve into the reasons and theories behind why we won’t see Ranveer Singh and Ranbir Kapoor in a film together anytime soon, let’s look at the recent reports.
According to Times Now, “The second part of the Brahmastra trilogy is unlikely to feature another major star. No producer can afford it. After Animal, Ranbir is likely to renegotiate his price, currently standing at around Rs 60 crore. Bringing in Ranveer would increase the budget, as he would charge no less than Ranbir.
Currently, no other actor, not even Ranveer, has been approached. The only certainty is that Dharma Production is still the main producer. Another producer may be brought in later, and only then will the cast for Brahmastra 2 be expanded. Ayan Mukerji is currently working on War 2. Brahmastra 2 is not set to begin before 2026.
Remember shelving of Rohit Shetty’s Ram Lakhan Remake?
The idea of Ranveer Singh joining Brahmastra 2 seems less likely when considering the historical challenges producers have encountered in bringing two major stars together in a film. Figures like Akshay Kumar and Rohit Shetty have openly discussed the difficulties they’ve faced in working on or supporting projects with multiple leading actors. In fact, Rohit Shetty had to abandon his plans to remake Ram-Lakhan because the younger actors were “too insecure to work together.” This perspective makes more sense in light of the industry’s past experiences with multi-starrer projects.

Brahmastra 2 could gross RRR’s 550-crore+ budget?
Ranbir Kapoor’s popularity has soared after Animal, and any other star joining a project with him is unlikely to settle for a fee lower than his, maintaining a standard in the industry. The challenge for any producer is evident in managing the hefty salaries of such high-profile stars, especially considering the scale of Brahmastra 1. The costs for VFX and styling in Part 2 would further escalate.
Recall the fluctuating budget figures thrown around during the discussions of Brahmastra Part 1, ranging from 350 crores to 550 crores, without clarity on the actual number. If the makers intend to bring in two stars, Ranbir Kapoor and Ranveer Singh, for Brahmastra 2, they would have to allocate a substantial budget, likely exceeding 600 crores, to make this collaboration happen. The challenge lies not only in covering such a colossal cost but also in generating earnings significant enough to recover the investment, let alone turn a profit.
Does that mean Brahmastra 2 is shelved?
Speculating to that extent might be too much, but the makers will face a decision. They could either shape the story to involve a double role for Ranbir Kapoor, reducing costs, or go all in, investing over 600 crores to bring in another actor. If the latter scenario unfolds, it would make Brahmastra 2 the most expensive Indian film ever made, surpassing RRR, which was reported to have a massive budget of 550 crores.
